The Ohio Players, Dayton’s first nationally renowned funk band, were a generation apart from the numerous local funk artists that followed them. Comprised of younger musicians, members of this band were recent high school graduates. They were relatively ‘green’ as musicians and received their formal and informal musical training in Dayton’s public schools and through social networks with older musicians.
